This Sunday, October 20, I crossed the finish line of the legendary Diagonale des Fous after 182 km and 11,200 m of elevation gain, an adventure that lived up to my passion for sport, but also my commitment to long-term nocturnal hemodialysis 3*8h/week at night (HDLN).
For over 27 years, #dialysis has been part of my daily life… Offering this modality is a real paradigm shift in the way of living with dialysis replacement therapy.
HDLN, which consists of performing dialysis sessions during sleep, at night, for 8 hours, three times a week, if possible in a single room, has been credited with a multitude of clinical and biological benefits in numerous observational studies.
This modality offers an exceptional and unmatched rate of inclusion and retention in employment: 67% of active people, on the Rennes patient population from 2002 to 2019.
Beyond the biological benefits, this modality allows a real improvement in the quality of life and social/professional inclusion of dialysis patients.
Despite its proven effectiveness, HDLN remains underdeveloped in France, with only 250 patients benefiting from this modality out of the 55,000 dialysis patients. This must not remain an exception, but become the rule for all those who, like me, aspire to maintain a full and active life, even with kidney disease.
My plea: « Dialysis at night to relive the day » remains more relevant than ever. Thanks to the HDLN, I can participate in ambitious projects and continue to invest in ‘altruistic’ research projects such as « La Diagonale de mes rêves ».
